Gorgeous day, so I went out walking at lunchtime. It is the start of a typical Manhattan summer.
Tourists clog the sidewalks, contemplating their navels and marveling at all the shiny stuff in the windows (unless engrossed in whatever people do 24 hours a day looking at a cell phone screen).
Women (and the female children of women) who should otherwise know better, break out the diaphanous blouses, low-cut backless strapless cami tees, white short shorts and skirts where the slightest wind shows pretty much EVERYthing. New York City in summer has more T&A than a Wal-Mart in Topeka.
The restaurants have begun moving tables and chairs outside, and posting their summer menu specials. Just today I saw
Truffle Quinoa Quiche
Salad Nicoise
French Onion Soup
or
Hamburger and Fries
(and you do understand that they are serving the aforementioned tourists mushrooms and rice in a pastry shell and charging $15.99 for a “quinoa quiche”)
