AH – tribute bands. I’ve seen quite a few the last few years of visiting, then living in, Florida. For some reason tribute bands do a booming business down here. Maybe it’s the price….$35 a ticket instead of $350 for the real thing.
Saturday night, Start Me Up: Tribute to the Rolling Stones played The Arts Garage in Delray Beach. The artists were wonderful, particularly the female singer, Astrid Voxx, who blew the roof off with “Gimme Shelter” (standing ovation).
“Keith Richards” and “Ron Woods” wore wigs to heighten the resemblance, but both already looked pretty good. “Mick Jagger” had a great voice – not as gravely as the original, but he had the frenetic dance moves down. “Charlie Watts” was a dead ringer and had mad skills!! They added a keyboard player, bass player, and an instrumentalist who played sax, flute, and percussion which covered the bases!!!
The Arts Garage seats about 232 in tables of eight. Our table were friends of the bass player who had driven about 45 miles to the concert and they were interesting as well. The woman next to me had produced over 500 high end fashion and charity events on the east coast during her career. She had gone to school to act/model and found production more lucrative. Fun conversations during the break.
Have some fun (an older clip…still wearing masks!!):
